When I first moved to Shepperton from Glasgow some 20 years ago, one of my first social events was to watch a non league team I have heard of i.e. Walton & Hersham in a FA cup tie v Swansea (I think) mid week. Swans lost but I became a fan. To this day I still come along to about 5 home games a year and a couple of away games but just disappointed to see the team struggle in Div 1 and believe we could and should be higher. Look at Whitehawk, most impressive team I saw at Stompond Lane in recent years, a mixture of youth and experience. What can we do to get invigorate Walton & Hersham FC?

Agree Vicar, we seem to be suffering from a lack of confidence at the moment and potentially we have the players and spirit to be comfortably mid table at least! It's early days yet, 46 league games to play and only 9 so far completed. Whilst we seem to be suffering from stage fright when it comes to finishing off chances created we are at least creating them, oh for a forward even on loan, like Dave Tarpey!!! We can only battle on and hopefully the tide will turn. The mention of Whitehawk evokes rumours of dodgy money behind the scenes financing their operations and I would rather we went forward within our means than be having to look over our shoulders for the evil day of reckoning! We saw a similar scenario with Croydon Athletic who money laundered dodgy funds and collapsed like a pack of cards a few seasons back! The Swansea game, I too remember well, we were stitched up on the basis that the originally scheduled Saturday FA Cup game which would have been a big money spinner with a great crowd and TV income, was postponed on the basis that Swansea had a couple of international players for Wales who had an international match. As I recall, they didn't get to play anyway and just warmed the bench up!! So, from a potentially exciting saturday FA Cup tie with an exciting prospect of a heaving crowd at Stompond Lane, we had to make do with about a third of crowd support on the Tuesday. Our club is a "sleeping giant" as several managers have commented in the past, unfortunately these days success seems to depend on financial resources and ours are modest, following the abandoning of ship by a certain well known Ryman director! It seemed he did a runner when the Stompond Lane development was squashed by our fine friends at Elmbridge Council!
