Seen on the BBC football website that an investigation in to racist abuse has been reported after yesterdays game at Merthyr Town against Hungerford.
Both teams are helping in resolving the issue, but if points, a severe points deduction and/or fine were to be made on Merthyr by the football league as punishment they would certainly drop out of the play off places and Swans would surly move up the league into the play off places as a result and if they could win their last games to keep that place a play off place would be guaranteed.

Thanks Mike for the 1st response. The only thing I left out was the link but I wasn’t going to do all the work for the forum members 🤣🤣
I have mixed views on this, should there be a points deduction and/or fine and I’m never sure even in the Premiership Championship, Division 1 & 2 and downwards if it is right or not.
Ok I will start the ball rolling with my views.
As a Swans long time (for me anyway) supporter through thick and thin, from 71 to Wembley glory in 73, good and bad times to continual relegation until the club was purchased and rebranded to what we now know it as today, should a points deduction and slide down the table be made against Merthyr ? obviously I would take it, what swans fan wouldn’t based on our current position just outside the P/O places ?
Is it fair on Merthyr if points were to be deducted and as a result they slide outside the play off positions, down the league and swans move up the league back into the P/O positions ? No of course not. But the FA work in strange ways we all know that.
In any football league I think the club should be fined NOT have points deducted for any infringements of the rules, out of their control unless it is financial based. The offending team, note the wording, who ever they are have worked hard to get where they are in the league, only to loose out on promotion P/O place, due to probably an alcohol fueled fan of theirs being abusive to an opponents player.
Racial abuse should never be tolerated, banter on the other hand is always part of football, it’s part and parcel, but never racist. The person responsible should be given a life ban by the club, for ruining the clubs promotion chances, and advise again to all people entering the stadium that racism will not be tolerated and such action and will be dealt with accordingly.
Any club that takes legal action against a “fan” for racist abuse would get anybody’s vote.
Sounds like I’m being harsh, but can you imagine what it could be like if Swans had got to Merthyr’s situation currently and see it all taken away in a few seconds due to a drunk idiot so called fan ? We can all moan about playing out from the back and loosing possession and conceding a goal, dreadful refs decisions, incorrect substitutions, etc but if someone who supposedly was a fan was standing next to you and as a result of a few beers, shouts racist comments, your teams points are deducted and slide out of the P/O positions and down the league I can’t imagine you would just shrug your shoulders and say oh well it’s happened let’s look to next season. No you would want to tell the fan his future…..

I am pretty sure if Merthyr have league required notices about fan behaviour posted including the consequence of not abiding by these rules and then enforce them with a lifetime ban or similar
i am not sure Merthyr can prosecute the fan and I am not an attorney…..I don’t see the league deducting points…they may levy a fine and a threat of actions in the event of potentially future consequences
Regretable some folks seem unable to adapt to an acceptable level of self conduct which Iam sure spoils the day for not just aimed at victims but for everyone
Whilst the idea of moving up in the playoff standings is great I don’t feeel this is the way to do it

Many clubs have their idiotic/racial fans, I’ve even seen it at The Lane in the past and to a large extent it’s out of the clubs control, to punish a club with a points deduction for me would be harsh especially if there has been no previous. Even if Merthyr were taken out of the playoff mix I feel there are other teams hitting form at the right time and unfortunately we are running out of games.

Hope springs eternal but realistically we are eighth in the league and 15th in the form table of the last six matches and going on the way we played on Monday we have no chance!

Hey. As mentioned previously the Poole Town last home game of the season is the must go to match as a win will secure our play off position!!
Too may difficult games for our contenders to face yet so this is going to go to the last game.

It would be a fantastic end to the season for us if we were still in with a shout going into the last game, I hope your right but I feel we have given ourselves too much to do and we will look back the games that got away. Whatever the outcome it’s been a wonderful season in what is a very tough/competitive league.

This has been posted by Merthyr and copied from their website today ….
************************************************************************** Club Statement
2 April 2024 Following the alleged racist incident in yesterday’s game against Hungerford Town, the Merthyr Town FC Board convened an extraordinary meeting this evening to ensure the matter is addressed – and resolved – as soon as possible.
As a result, legal advice is being sought to ensure that a suitably structured and robust process is followed.
To assist in this approach, the club would welcome written statements or testimonials from any supporter in or around the area where the alleged incident took place, ideally detailing their recollection of events. Please submit any such document to the club via email at: Info@MerthyrTownFC.co.uk or MerthyrTownFC@mail.com.
To reiterate: as a community club, Merthyr Town FC do not tolerate, and condemn in the strongest terms possible, any form of racist or homophobic behaviour.

Absolutely no chance of a points deduction for something like that, would be absolutely gobsmacked. Merthyr seem to be doing all the right things in terms of investigating it as well, which will count in their favour. And as Eddie said, if it were to happen then it probably would be someone like Bracknell or Hungerford who would benefit! 3 games into our 7 "must win" games to close off the season and we are DDL!
Probably not going to be our year, but a top 8 finish and finishing above Basingstoke would be good enough for me!
