Tough one. Can anybody remember what the team was for the game this year?

AH Memories of a great five days starting at Stompond Lane, with a temporary stand erected to take the attendance to a record 6.500. How the club would love to have a tenth of that crowd now1 Then Brighton manager Brian Clough insisted his seat be moved across the running track to be closer to the action. Sadly FA Amateur Cup heroes Roger Connell and Keiron Somers had "taken the shilling" at Hendon and the main forwards were now Clive Foskett, Russell Perkins and Bobby Wingate Apart from keeper Gary Bloom, who replaced QPR bound Richard Teale, and right back Roy Thomas, who lost his place to Dave Sargeant the team still contained most of the FA Amateur Cup winning stars: Chris Lambert, Dave Donaldson, Billy Edwards, Dave Bassett, Colin Woffinden, fans' favourite Willie Smith, and Dave Morris. The replay was held four days later at The Goldstone Ground. This was in the middle of the Winter of Discontent and the match kicked off at 3.00pm on a Wednesday to avoid the regular power black outs. On the field it was Brighton who suffered the black out as Walton claimed an historic 4-0 win. Clive Foskett gained some compensation for missing the Amateur Cup Final by bagging a famous hat trick, while the other goal went to Russell Perkins. One final note. On a very snowy evening the team, a few officials and supporters plus one very lucky journalist (me) stopped for a celebratory meal about half way home from Brighhton. We had just sat down when John Motson appeared in the doorway in his trademark sheepskin coat and manager Allen Batsford was whisked off in a BBC staff car to appear on Match of the Day, which I remember watching through a rather alcoholic haze. Great Days indeed.

I think Observer has covered it very well, l watched the game at Stompond Lane can remember a mass brawl taking place in the full length of Hersham Road before the game, managed to get into the game safely that was quite scary at the time. Sadly l missed the replay at Brighton in the week the 3.00 kick-off was not helpful. Can remember hitting the roof when l heard the result and shouting Walton & Hersham. One of those life's great moments in time.
Walton & Hersham not only won 4-0 if that was not enough, it was great to see Clough eat humble pie. Willie Smith was my favourite he had a dance with Mum at the Hersham British Legion after winning the FA Amateur Cup, was l annoyed l missed him that night, l was out in Walton having celebrating with beers then off to the Walton Hop.
Ah those were the days every other Saturday afternoon Stompond Lane at 3.00 then off to Walton for a few beers, then off to the Hop to pull some local girls, "Happy Days".
