The scenes as AFC Wimbledon edge closer to Plough Lane return and demolition work gets under way
AFC Wimbledon’s return to Merton took another exciting step with a demolition event marking the start of work at Plough Lane. Wimbledon legends Dave Bassett and Ian Cooke joined leader of Merton Council Stephen Alambritis, to celebrate another significant milestone following December's Section 106 agreement.
Former Swan Dave Bassett was in the news today at Plough Lane starting demolition of the old Wimbledon Stadium the site of AFC Wimbledon's new 20,000-seater stadium, with an initial capacity of up to 11,000 that fulfils AFC Wimbledon’s aim to grow as a club and bring substantial benefits to the local community. Nice to see a former Combined Counties League side doing well the forever positive optimistic AFC Wimbledon are hoping to play Barcelona in the first game at the new Plough Lane Stadium and show Chelsea how its done. The new Dons Stadium cost about the same amount as the Swans new Hub ground cost, some how l think EBC were a bit diddled. Dave Basset must be getting on a bit now, must be over 70.

Pleased to see AFC stadium about to take shape. Long overdue and best wishes to them for the future.Just goes to show what a more positive and enlightened Elmbridge Council could have provided for our club instead of the characterless and bleak facility we have been lumbered with. Good to see our former icon Dave Bassett; brings back many memories of our club's golden days.
