Hi All,
As we are now a few weeks into the season I felt the time was write to give you all an update on football matters as promised:
Injuries/Players missing
• John Clarke is back in light training and hopefully available within the next 2 weeks.
• Andy Lomas has not suffered any serious injury to his ankle following the Worthing game. We are hopeful he will be available for the journey to Folkestone this Saturday.
• Michael Blount has been recalled by Slough but I am doing everything I can to make him a permanent face at Walton (will update on this asap).
• Greg Ngeo: Following the sad death of Greg’s Father he has returned to Kenya for a short while with family. In regards to timescale on his return currently I am unsure of this but again will keep you informed.
Suspensions
Clearly this has been a major talking point following recent events and rightly so. The first three sending’s off were all deserved and I have no complaints. However the following 2 in my opinion were ridiculous. I feel we may be paying the price for the first three and have got ourselves an unfair reputation. This is something we need to loose and very quickly. I can assure you all that the players are fully aware of how serious this situation is and that it cannot continue to happen.
Following the sending off to Ishmael Thomas on Saturday and subsequent events that have since transpired we will be appealing the decision but will not be making any further comment on the situation until further notice. Once again I will update you on this and I am very confident it will be good news.
New Signings
I am very hopeful on unveiling 3 new signings at the club this week. Due to suspensions, players injured or unavailable the squad has been extremely stretched over the last couple of weeks and the 3 players’ coming in will certainly add real strength in all areas. This should be announced on Wednesday/Thursday of this week. I never like to name the players until they have officially signed but you will be the first know once this has been done.
Season so far
I have been quite pleased with our performances and efforts so far with exception to the home game against Merstham. (bad night all round). I do however feel that we should be sitting higher in the table but as discussed discipline had cost us dearly.
It has been a huge turnaround in a shortime with players coming and going and myself, Jesse and Roy getting to know everyone on and off the field.
Anyone watching can see we are trying to play an attractive style of football but we are also working extremely hard on the defensive side of our game which so far has not been were I would like it. Time and a couple of new signings will hopefully deliver the right results. On a positive note I have been very pleased with several of the young players that have come through the reserve side and recently featured in a couple of games. I have been very impressed and think they could all have a very bright future at the club. Finally I would like to thank everyone at the club for the warm welcome I have received since arriving. I can assure you that myself, Jesse, Roy and the players will do everything we can to deliver a successful season.
If you do have any questions or would like an update on anything just ask.
I will be more than happy to answer.
Enjoy and get behind the lads. SWANS !
Cheers
Steve
